A SECOND LOOK AT FIRST IMPRESSIONS
First impressions matter a lot. I’m sure you agree with me. But the truth is: first impressions are not often the truest impressions. The reason is because: Nobody is as good as they first appear. And nobody is as bad as he first appears!
First impressions may not be the true picture of things but we all know that they last very long. Whether we like it or not, that is just how it is. Businessmen know that getting repeat business is critically hinged on the customer’s first impression.
As much as we may like it or hate it, people hold on to first impressions. Though that may not be your true character and attitude (at least who doesn’t have a bad day?) but the first-timer sure went away with the feelers she got on your very first encounter.
The call then is for us to be real, ever prepared to put up our best in all instances and on all occasions – you never know when you make an impression on someone somewhere. Not really that you should try to impress people but to just be your very best self.
I’m sure like me you want to be on your best behaviour every moment, anytime, any day. I do not try to impress people. It’s not even worth it any way. Plus, I do not have a mandate to impress men but to impact my world. When I succeed in impacting the people I come across, I would have succeeded in impressing them.
To sum it all up, you don’t take first impressions too seriously. They may linger but there is always another day. Another day to either validate or disprove it. Selah!
