If somebody else says you are wonderful and the people you live with don’t, then you have failed. It is far more important that the people who know you the best think well of you because they get to see every part of you. – T. D. Jakes

As the year 2013 is running out – we’ve got just twenty more days, approximately 480 hours or 28800 minutes – the words of Chinese sage Confucius bears relevance. He said: “FORGET INJURIES, NEVER FORGET KINDNESSES.”
I think this is great advice as we reflect on how the year has been and make preparations for the coming year. It is my prayer for you that you will not only finish this year well, you’ll finish it strong! YOU WILL SUCCEED!
A couple moved into a new neighborhood, and one morning while they were eating breakfast the wife looked out the window and saw her neighbor hanging wash on the line to dry. She noticed the wash was dingy and dirty. She remarked to her husband, “That neighbor lady doesn’t know how to wash. Her clothes aren’t clean. I wonder if she’s even using any detergent.”
Day after day she would make the same comments: “I can’t believe the neighbor doesn’t know how to wash. I can’t believe they wear those dingy-looking clothes.”
A few weeks later the woman looked out the window and the clothes were as clean and bright as could be. She was so surprised. She called her husband in and said, “Look, honey, I can’t believe it. She finally learned how to wash. I wonder what happened.”
The husband smiled and said, “honey, I got up early this morning and cleaned our window.”
Simple lesson: What you see is colored by what window you’re looking through. “To the pure all things are pure” (Titus 1:15). Get up and clean your window. The problem is not always without but within. You will succeed!
(10 GOOD REASONS TO FINISH WHAT YOU’VE STARTED)
Are you tempted to quit on that project you’ve started? Maybe you’re building a business, learning a skill, reading a book or writing one; taking a college course or a qualifying exam. Then, don’t!
Maybe your motivation is sagging or the obstacles are wearing you out. Do not quit yet. Let me encourage you to finish whatever it is you have started. Here are ten good reasons for you to consider. I refuse you to be a quitter!
Reason 1: It pays to finish. This life only celebrates a finisher. Monuments are not erected to quitters but finishers. Mockery is the only reward for uncompleted projects (see Luke 14:29).
Reason 2: God does not reward uncompleted assignments and abandoned projects. Only finishers are rewarded. Heaven is a city for “him who overcomes”. (See Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 26; 3:12, 21) If you can finish, you have won. With God finishing is winning!
Reason 3: Only completers are saved (Matthew 24:13). Starting is no big deal. Anyone (within a reasonable margin) can start anything. But it takes people with the spirit of excellence to follow through and finish what they have started. And only such people are rewarded with success in life. Stick-to-itiveness is the mark of champions. “Endings are better than beginnings. Sticking to it is better than standing out.”(Eccles. 7:8 The Message)
Reason 4: What you have spent so far is more than what you have left to spend. What you have left to take would not be as much as what you have taken so far. What you have left to sacrifice (in time, money, energy, effort etc.,) is not up to what you have sacrificed till here. Do not quit now and at this point, what it would take to complete the journey is less than what have brought you this far.
Reason 5: If you quit midway, you are only as good as a non-starter. If you quit now, your story will be buried in the cemetery of non-achievers. You would be addressed as a ‘could-have-been’. So, don’t quit!
Reason 6: The obstacles left for you to surmount can’t be as great as the one you have conquered – the fear of starting (inertia)!
Reason 7: The regret of “How I wish I’d finished it” is not to be compared to the joy of “I finished it after all”!
Reason 8: If you do not finish, it shows you lack the quality essential to success in any endeavor – the power of follow through. If you must quit, quit quitting! Quitters don’t win because quitting is anathema to winning.
Reason 9: If you quit now, what will be your gain. You would have lost everything you have invested in this project so far, plus, you would have learnt all those lessons in vain.
Reason 10: Don’t quit, not now, not ever! There is no glory in quitting. Neither is there any shame in winning no matter how long it takes you. Completers are winners any day. There is no shame or failure in finishing. Every athlete who breasts the tape is a winner even if he/she comes in last! Finish, no matter how long it takes you. “Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”” (Luke 9:62)
Have you ever been tempted to quit? Would you share your experiences with us here? You will succeed!
I read this somewhere and I hope it blesses you as it has blessed me.
“We forget how fragile life is. We wait for Thanksgiving to give thanks. We wait for Christmas to give gifts. We wait for Valentine’s Day to show love to those we hold dear. We say to ourselves, Today is just an ordinary day. So we wait, and while we wait the clock ticks. Precious moments pass by. But in reality there is no such thing as an ordinary day.” – Author unknown
Make the most of your life. Enjoy your day with the precious people, situations and circumstances God has put you up with. Do not take this moment for granted. There is no such thing as an ordinary day! Enjoy your weekend. You will succeed!
